                                             I. INTRODUCTION

     In the lake of the Amazon  Rain Forest lays a magnificent Crocodile. This gigantic Reptile has a Greek name Krocodilos. Also, a French name,Kroke. 

 

                                                 II.Family

     Watch out!! There is a group of Crocodiles in the lake over there, which is callled a Float,Bask, congregation or nest. Crocodiles are related to Alligators, Lizards and Canon.

 

                                    III.Boy Am I PRETTY!

     Is that a Crocodile? Crocodiles are greyish-green. They have a narrow,tappered  triangular snout. The fourth tooth on either side of the lower jaw is always exposed. The maximum length is 19.8'.

 

                                               IV.Habitat

     If you want to see a crocodile, then you should go to the northern coast of South America and I can  assure you that you"ll see one. The range of an American Crocodile is in extreme southern Florida, Carribean Islands, Central America, South America, Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

 

                                                   V.Meal Time

     Are you hungry! Well Crocodiles eat fish, birds turtles and other small animals. Also, they attack large animals and humans. Crocodiles receive it's food by remaining motionless under water until their prey stops for a drink and BOOM!!! The animal is trapped in the Crocodiles ferocious jaws and dragged under water. Therefore, drowning it to death!

 

                                                   VI.Enemies

     Humans are Crocodiles main threat. Hunters have hunted Crocodiles from 1930 to present for their skin. Today, hunting is less of a problem, because there are people who protect them from hunters. Unfortunately, they are losing their habitat to dams and fish farms.

 

                                                 VII.Let's Fight

     A Crocodile defends itself by sticking it's sharp teeth in the enemies and twisting and turning it's body tearing it's flesh off. Then it drowns the animal by dragging it under water.

 

                                          VIII.Reproduction

     Crocodiles reproduce in late April to early May. It is 80 to 90 days before the hatchlings are born. There are 30 to 60 eggs in a litter. Crocodiles live until they are 70 years old.

 

                                          IX.Friends or foes

     Humans are not getting a good start with Crocodiles, because they are their main threat! Nothing can compare to the damage that humans have caused.

                                        

                                               X.Population

     The population of Crocodiles are 10,000 to 20,000. These poor endangered species are hunted for their luscious scales. They are used for shoes and handbags.

 

                                   XI.Time to Hit the Sack!

     Crocodiles sleep in short bouts in the night or day between periods of activity, especially after eating.

             

                                        XII.Adaption

     American Crocodiles have adapted to the climate of South America by beginning a new life in water.

 

                                      XII.Habits

     When a Crocodile feeds on it's victim, it sheds tears of sympathy. Crocodiles eat anthing they can catch, and they always swallow it whole.

 

                                 IIV.Unique Characteristics     

     Hey where are the Crocodile babies? Adult Crocodiles have a pouch in their mouth where they put the hatchlings to keep it safe. Also, the adult Crocodile will leave her hatchlings on their own if she is weak.

 

                                   XV.Stop Cutting Down the Rain Forest Trees

     As you can see the, the Crocodiles have a big part in the Rain Forest and are close to becoming extinct. However, if we stop cutting down Rain Forest trees now, then they may have a chance of survival. Also, remember if you cut down a tree, please grow one back!!
